Nikki and the Magna Carta
by Maureen H. Martin

England 1215 Young orphan Nikki finds herself caught between two opposing forces. The rebel barons are trying to exact justice from the evil King John. Her grandmother, Lady Nicolaa de la Haye, who is the castellan of Lincoln Castle, plans to cooperate with the king by sending her granddaughter as a hostage. Nikki escapes her grandmother’s clutches and she and her friends become caught up in the birth of the Great Charter—Magna Carta. Along with other cardinal principles, the Charter impresses her with an all important one, that no person is above the law, not even the king himself!
